First Case Of New COVID-19 Variant Found In Durham County

On January 23rd, the first case of the B.1.1.7 SARS-CoV variant was identified in North Carolina; and now, Durham County is reporting its first confirmed case of this variant. It's been discovered that the B.1.1.7 variant is more contagious than other variations. A WNCT article titled
"Durham County Reports First Case of B.1.1.7 COVID-19 Variant" reveals that Durham County Health Director Rod Jenkins was not surprised to find one case of the B.1.1.7 variant here in Durham County as 45 states across the country have reported the same.
While the COVID-19 vaccines that are currently available should protect against the B.1.1.7 variant, Jenkins believes that wearing a mask, social distancing and washing our hands continue to be very useful methods against any of the variants. He adds that for more protection, it's critical to get vaccinated when the time comes.
